Senior Secondary Adapted Applied Learning Courses for Students with IDD: Social Service Assistant Training Course

Course objectives

This course aims to introduce students to the key responsibilities and duties of a social service assistant, encompassing industry philosophy, administrative support, and daily operational tasks such as reception and clerical work. Through diversified learning activities, the course cultivates students' communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and organisational capabilities, thereby enhancing their professional skills and self-confidence to prepare them for future employment in the social service sector or related fields.

Course Features

Centring on the development of "vocation-related competencies," this course promotes comprehensive student learning through the following dimensions:

  • Industry Understanding & Skill Training: Assisting students in understanding the operational dynamics of the social service sector while mastering foundational workplace skills and job requirements.
  • Competency Cultivation & Attitude Building: Fostering appropriate work attitudes, enhancing practical application and reflective thinking skills, and encouraging students to demonstrate perseverance and innovation.
  • Application of Multiple Pedagogical Strategies: The course incorporates four core instructional strategies:
    • Multiple Means of Representation: Integrating diverse formats—including text, graphics, videos, and concrete objects—to facilitate instruction.

    • Multiple Means of Engagement: Utilising gamified learning and peer collaboration to enhance learning motivation.

    • Multiple Means of Expression: Enabling students to demonstrate learning outcomes through oral, written, and practical demonstrations.

    • Standardisation and Sequential Guidance: Deconstructing complex concepts into explicit, manageable steps to assist students in acquiring knowledge and skills progressively.

Application Procedures

Students interested in enrolling in the Applied Learning Adapted Course must apply through their attending school and participate in the selection arrangements announced by the institution subsequently.
